  1. Laura, I can't wait to learn from your research! This will be some potentially very powerful information that helps move your campus forward with respect to students' reading success. How appropriate as a tool, with the knowledge that our state assessment tool, STAAR, requires so much more rigorous thinking of our students. Looking forward to learning along with you!

    1. I appreciate your feedback Marny. Upon review of your blog and posted comments, I may need to reflect and make adjustments to my plan with regard to my time-line. Once full implementation takes place, our Lexia program will provide an avenue for us to monitor student progress and improvements. It is indeed a powerful tool for us. I agree in that I will be able to utilize the collected data and information that the Lexia program will provide in order to help "move our campus forward with respect to our students' reading success." It was well quoted by the Chinese philosopher Laozi "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"(c 604 bc - c 531 bc). By conducting our action research projects, we are in essence beginning our thousand mile journeys as aspiring leaders while taking the initial steps to improve our schools. Thanks again for following me on this action research journey! I'm also looking forward to following your plan and gaining new insights about your research.

    2. Laura your plan could surely benifit many campuses. Many students with low reading scores also perform poor in science and math. With the results from this action plan and a little elbow grease, teachers all over could possibly see improvements in their lower readering students in all academic areas.

    3. I appreciate your feedback. Yes, this is a huge dilemma for most campuses because reading is the driving force for all content areas. Our primary goal is to monitor and improve reading skills with early identification and targeted intervention. We hope to utilize this program by providing a means for students to fill in their primary reading gaps with a meaningful and interactive web-based program.

  2. This is a very good subject to study. At the high school level, we still see struggling readers that needed that extra advantage at the lower level. Great idea that directly affects the success of students. Other than the timeline constraints that you already mentioned, I think it looks great and is well organized.

    1. Michael, I appreciate your feedback. I understand that reading is a struggle for most students in the upper grades as well. It all falls back to their primary reading foundation. Without a solid foundation built on phonics, graphophonemics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, students are unable to develop the higher level reading skills of inferencing or summarizing; therefore, the interest in the text or comprehension may be lost. It is my hope to identify these at-risk struggling readers at the primary level in order to make appropriate interventions, so that improvements will be made and learning gaps will decreased as they move throughout the school system. As far as my timeline is concerned, I'm adding revisions by extending my plan through next school year. Thanks again for your time and feedback!
